Permanent exhibition of Míla Doleželová in Telč opened

From Saturday, 17 June 2023, the permanent exhibition of Míla Doleželová will be open at the University Centre of Masaryk University in Telč. It presents the work of this exceptional artist as well as the work of her husband, the artist Jiří Mareš, together with their life story illustrated by a number of unique personal documents. The exhibition includes music and movement studios and art studios, where workshops will be held.

The painter Míla Doleželová (1922-1993) spent more than half of her life in the vicinity of Javořice, and the last twenty years in Telč. It was her wish that her work should remain in Telč. It took more than thirty years to fulfil this wish and last year, thanks to an agreement with the owners of the paintings, the Czech Dominican Province, a loan was agreed and in the same year UC MU received a grant from the EEA funds 2014-2021. "Art and culture are links that can reach people. The intention of the Masaryk University University Centre is a meaningful community centre that will serve the broadest public of the city, the region and tourists," says Jaroslav Makovec, director of UC MU, adding: "We open the studios that are part of the exhibition to the general public during the summer months so that child visitors can try out their artistic skills on their own with the assistance of a trained staff member. From September onwards, the studios will host art workshops for primary and secondary school pupils."

These activities are also related to the concept of Masaryk University, which confirms its mission as a modern educational and cultural institution of the 21st century. In his speech, the Vice-Rector of the University, Prof. Jiří Hanuš, said: "I am really pleased and even surprised how impressive Mila Doleželová's exhibition has been placed in the university centre in Telč. The painter, the university and Telč deserve such an excellent exhibition." The opening was opened by the Norwegian Ambassador Victor C. Rønneberg, who also took over the patronage.

The exceptional nature of Míla Doleželová's work will be confirmed by the placement of her painting On the Road in the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.

Another benefit of this exhibition is the offer for visitors to the town of Telč, for whom a tourist route called Telč Places of Míla Doleželová has been prepared. Its individual stops are linked to places that are associated with this exceptional, distinctive and original artist.
